In a sea of posts and articles about the hideous reality we have created for ourselves it becomes easy to get lulled by the gentle sway of your crude little life-raft as you watch the sharks doing lazy loops around you. Once in a while something solid floats by and you take notice of its strangeness. This article is such a solid thing, or at least it looks like it: some real research, most of it done years ago, that links the rise and fall of the rate of violent crime from the 60's to the 90's with the emissions from leaded gasoline, which followed an eerily similar arc.
